GRIESE, TIESMEIER, COURRIER

Betty McCafferty  January 4, 2004
I am also looking for Henry GRIESE who married Charlotte TIESMEIER in 1857, Nov. 17. One of their sons moved back to Moberly from St. Lous, MO. I believed he worked for the railroad company. I do not know the name of the company.  Oh, Louis COURRIER may have a prison record, not sure but the story goes that he shot a man in a card game and had to do some time.  This had to be 1880's maybe.  He was married to Jusrusha (Gertude) (Hammack) COURRIER.  They had five childen.  Louise, Viola, Benjamin James, Myrtle, and Bertha COURRIER.  Bertha was my great grandmother.  She died a tragic death in 1927 when my mom was only seven.  Bertha married a Clement Clarke and divorced him after WWI.  She remarried some man named Henry Welty who left her and my mom in the 1920's.  This was the reason my great grandmother suffered so much pain. Henry Welty resided in Texas after he left my great grandmother without telling her.  Well any info would be appreciated on Louis L Courrier (his fathers name was James) and Henry GRIESE.   PS  Jusrusha, Louis, and Bertha are buried in Fetus, MO. thank you so much.

WALTERS

George Walters January 31, 2004
I am looking for information about the
WALTERS family of Lamar.  Willard Oscar WALTERS was a mail carrier in the area during the early 20th century.  I have found two of his children – Paul E., who was a manager at a lumberyard in Lamar, and Arthur W., who moved to Pocatello, ID, and was a postal clerk.  The others are still a mystery to me.  Can you help me find them?

Edna E. WALTERS, b. Feb 1885 in MO

Winnie WALTERS, b. Jul 1889 in MO

Lauretta M. WALTERS, b. Sep 1897 in MO

They probably married locally – is there a listing somewhere online of marriages in the area?  Also, I am looking for Victor A., b. Jun 1892.  I am guessing he may have been a WW 1 casualty, but can’t find an online resource that will help me confirm that.  Any help you could provide would be most appreciated.

Betty Sumner Barrett February 6, 2004
C. R. Taylor, Photographer

I have a photograph of an unknown family (possibly Steward) that I believe was taken sometime between 1860 and 1900.  The drymount around it identifies the photographer as C. R. Taylor, North  Side, Opposite Court House, Lamar, MO.  Can anyone tell me the years that Mr. Taylor operated his business in Lamar? This may help to identify the photograph.

BROWN

Frank Lane July 19, 2004
Looking for any information about a Dr. Chester Frank BROWN who had a practice in Lamar in the late 1980's and early 1900's.   He died 20 Dec. 1911 and is buried in Lake Cemetery.
He was married to Nancy Amelia Jane Brown and had two daughters, Grace and Maude.
I believe Grace married twice to a JEWELL and to a SMITH.   Maude married Joe S. BEAMER of the College Hill Farm.   Maude and Joe's daughter Nancy was born in 1914 in what is now the funeral home located on the main street through Lamar.   I believe maybe Dr. Brown's practice was also there.   I would like to know more about his practice and how long he was in Lamar.

BEAMER

Frank Lane July 19, 2004
In the obituaries listed on the home page, the obituary for Col. D.A. Beamer refers to a "marvelous collection of oils and cuttings that has no duplication or equal in this part of the country is still stored away in the Lamar Opera block.   Lamar should see to it that this collection is preserved,"    Apparently these samples were taken from oil rock in Barton County about 1909 on College HIll Farm owned by Col. Beamer.   The obituary from the Lamar Democrat  referred to these samples as "the most remarkable pyhsical record of the statified formation of this part of the country, ever assembled and classified.
I would like to know if any one knows anything about this collection or its whereabouts at this time.  Col Beamer was my husbands great-grandfather and he would enjoy seeing this collection if is is still in existence.   Thanks

JONES /  BEAMER

Frank Lane July 19, 2004
Would like to make contact with any descendants of Shelby Jones family who lived in Lamar, Barton County area around  late 1880s and early 1900s.   I believe Mrs. Jones (Lana ?)  was a sister of  Emma Stewart the wife of D. A. Beamer of College Hill Farm.  Emma died at a young age in 1889 leaving a baby boy Joe S. Beamer (my husbands grandfather).  Apparently the Jones family helped care for the baby as his father traveled.  We have several pictures of this Jones family.   Lana and Emma were the daughters of Martin Lafayette Stewart and Octivia McFarland Stewart.   If you are from this family or know someone who is, please, contact us.  Thank you

JONES

Eddy Hamilton September 28, 2004
I am looking for information on Anderson S.
JONES  who was living in Lamar in the 1860 census with wife Mandy Jane JONES, son George, and daughter, Martha.
Occupation on the census is prominent Physician .  He would have been born about 1818 in Kentucky.  I have been to Lamar to research and found that he was killed in 1869 in a bar room fight of which I have all the minutes to the court records.  Nicholas Earp (Waytt's father) was the lawman then and was present when he was killed.  Anderson had remarried by then to a lady named Edith and had at least one child by her.  She had filled for divorce in 1868 but never had it finalized.  She later married James Wardslow.  I never found out what happen to Mandy Jane born 1827 in Kentucky , George born 1853 in Missouri or Martha born 1857 in Missouri.  None of the court records mentioned them.  My real need is to find this family because may great grand mother Amanda Jane Jones married in  Grayson County ,Texas in 1879 to Ely Smith Gregory and so started my family.  Story goes that she came to Te! xas as an orphan from Kansas City Missouri.  She had told the story about her father Anderson Jones being killed in a fight over a voting issue.  When you read the court case and newspaper articles this story matches.  I am looking for any information to help me put this puzzle together and would love to exchange information with any interested party.  Thanks in advance for your help.

SARGENT

Berlin September 30, 2004
Between 1880 and 1937, Sarah Margaret SARGENT lived with her husband, Charles Thomas SARGENT, on a farm outside of Nashville.  It is told "Maggie" found a petrified root in a stream on their farm sometime during that time.  The petrified root is in my families possession at this time, being brought to Illinois on her death by her son, Henry Harrison SARGENT.

I have tried to find out if there is known sources of petrified wood in the area of Nashville, MO or if it was brought by another source.
If anyone has any information or knowledge of this, I would like to know.  I am sending it to school with my grand daughter for study in science.
Thank you.

STACY, STACEY

Robyn Stacey December 31, 2004
Any info regarding these folks would be appreciated...greatly!!!

I have been looking for my Stac(e)y connections in MO. I did locate some info regarding some folks and this is what I am hoping you can help with.
On the 1870 Lamar Township, Barton Co., Missouri census dated 18th August 1870, the family listed on page 6 lines 33-40 and then on the top of the next sheet lines 1-6 had real estate valued at $10, 500. I assume this is a large amount of land.
I would like to know the history of the area and the family, if possible.
The family number in order of visitation on the census was 37. If possible, I am interested in this family farm: when it was established, when it no longer existed, who owned it, etc. I am most interested in the Stacy boys listed. If any history of this farm includes any other Stacys (such as the parents of the three listed here).
The family, as listed on the 1880 census, is as follows...
