PETERSON, FOREMAN, SPRINGER

Kathleen Rizer January 13, 2003
In the fall of 1867, on the way to Missouri, Mahala FOREMAN PETERSON developed typhoid fever and died upon arriving at Lamar, Barton co, Missouri. Does any record of her burial place exist? I am not sure that her husband, William H. PETERSON, had Lamar as his destination. If he did reside for a time in Lamar or the area he was probably well known. He had been a newspaper editor in Illinois and may have done so in Missouri. Mahala PETERSON was the daughter of Absalom FOREMAN and Sarah SPRINGER of Pike co, Illinois. Thank you,

THORNTON, THOMAS

Jerry L Hoffman January 25, 2003

Roy and Edna (THOMAS) THORNTON are buried at the Shiloh Cementery and they raised their children at the home where you turn off to go to the cemetery, they had 5 kids, Boyd, Erma, Evelin, Jack and Ethel (my mother). If you have any info on the THORNTON or THOMAS families or where I can find any please let me know.   Thank You

JENKINS

Barbara Jenkins Riat February 2, 2003
I am looking for a JENKINS family (white) who once lived outside of Milford, MO.  My great-great-great grandfather's name was William Francis JENKINS (or Joseph Charles JENKINS).  I believe he lived in Kentucky.  My great-great grandfather's name was Joseph Charles JENKINS (or William Francis JENKINS - it is difficult to tell, from the entry in my baby book.)  His wife's name was Anna Dixon JENKINS.  I believe Joseph and Anna came from Kentucky, before settling in Barton County, Missouri.
My grandfather's name was Shelby Price JENKINS.  He was known as Price JENKINS.  He was probably born around 1894-1896.  Price enlisted in the Navy in his youth and only returned to Barton County one time to introduce his wife, Matilda Esther Young JENKINS to his family, before returning to live in Philadelphia, PA.   Price and Matilda had three sons.  Shelby Jr., Francis, and Joseph, and then they divorced.  Price remarried and lived in New York City with his wife until he died a very old man.  I don't think there were any children in the second marriage.
My father's name was Shelby Price JENKINS Jr.  He was born January 3, 1914 in Philadelphia, PA, and was known as Shelby or Shel. My brother (who is living) is Shelby Price JENKINS, III and is known as Skip.
In the 1950's we made a trip from the east coast to the west coast and stopped in Milford or Lamar.  My father was hoping he could find some of his JENKINS family.  A local newspaper editor directed my father to a local nursing home where we met great Uncle Ed JENKINS (brother of Price).  I was fourteen, so Uncle Ed seemed very old and had a large goiter.  I have a picture of him standing with me, my sister and my brother Skip (S. P. Jenkins III).
Uncle Ed directed us out of town... outside of Milford... to an abandoned farm house which is where he and my grandfather and other siblings grew up.  He said the family made and sold chairs from one of the outbuildings and his father also bought cattle and sold them in Kansas City.  Then he directed us on further down the gravel road to one of those sparkling Missouri creeks - said that was where he and Price use to swim and fish.  Uncle Ed remembered Price bringing home his city bride and that she was shocked to discover where milk came from. (I doubt that... but Uncle Ed did have a country sense of humor).
We went to lunch with Uncle Ed and returned him to the nursing home.  From there he gave us directions to find great Aunt Effie JENKINS, the widow of one of his brothers.  I can't remember if we found her in Lamar or maybe Springfield.  She was very friendly and informative.  Unfortunately, I was interested in her dog and didn't hear much of the conversation.  I do remember she said she had a son who was a history professor at a university in Chicago and had worked on the JENKINS genealogy.   A first cousin of my father; I think his name was Harold or Howard JENKINS.  I think the last Christmas card I received from Aunt Effie was in 1960.
I would appreciate some direction in finding information about this JENKINS family.  Thank you,

JENNINGS

BROWN, BEAMER

Donna Lane March 16, 2003
Just started to research info on my husbands mother's ancestors.   the surnames are BROWN and BEAMER.   C. F. BROWN was a physician in Lamar.  He was buried in Lake Cemetery in 1911.   We know the grave location.  Spouse was Nancy Amelia Jane BROWN also buried in Lake Cem. in 1927.   Some confusion in site.  Our records show same lot with husband; cemetery records show same lot #, but different section.   Can find no stone.   David A. Beamer was also buried in Lake Cem. in 1934.  Also know grave location. Spouse was Emma E. buried  in 1889.  Graves are side by side.   If you would like to add these names to your records that would be great. Thanks

CROSS, HARTLEY

Edmon November 15, 2003
I am trying to find my great grand father, Harvey CROSS. I know that he was born August 1870 in Indiana. About 1893, he married Adella M. HARTLEY and had 5 children. They were Alice, Earl, Mary, Clara, and Eva. I know that they were living in Granby, Newton County, Missouri in 1900 according to the census. Eva was my grandmother. I was told that after Eva was born, Harvey left the family and never heard from again. Story has it that he was caught with a younger woman. I have found a Harvey Cross married to an Anna in the 1930 Census for Barton county, Union twp. This Harvey appears to be the right age. Can you help me find his descendents? It appears that he might be the one I am looking for.  If you can post this I would appreciate it. Thanks,
