William Rector, Who Died Friday, Was Buried Sunday Afternoon in Howell Cemetery - Had He Lived a Week Longer Would Have Reached His Ninety Sixty Birthday - Had Lived in Milford Community Since He Was a Boy of Ten - Died at the Home of His Daughter Mrs. Dave Eberhard - Had Been Active and Able to Be Around Until a Few Days Before His Death Leaves Seven Daughters
Funeral services for William B. Rector, ninety-five, pioneer Horse Creek resident, was held in the Milford Christian Church Sunday afternoon at 3:30. Interment followed in Howell Cemetery.
Our aged citizen died Friday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dave Eberhard near Jerico Springs. Had he lived a week longer, until March 24, he would have celebrated his 96th birthday. Despite the great weight of his years, Mr. Rector had remained active, got about his place, did odd jobs, and waited on himself until just a few days before his death when he was stricken by a cerebral hemorrhage.
He was one of the very oldest if not the oldest pioneer resident of Barton County. He was born in McCrackin County, Kentucky, March 24, 1849. When he was ten years old, in February 1869, he came with his parents, the late Wilson and Martha Jane Rector, to Barton County, where the family settled on a farm near Milford.
Here the deceased remained throughout the long year of his active life. He was a carpenter by trade, following this trade in addition to his farming interests. At the death of his wife about fourteen years ago he went to Nevada where he lived with the children. He came back from Nevada about a year ago to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Eberhard. His wife was the former Miss Macinda Barnaby. To this union were born nine daughters, two of whom died in infancy.
The remaining seven are as follows; Mrs. Dave Eberhard of Jerico, Mrs. Ed Hendrix of Nevada, Mrs. E. E. Wallace, Mrs. George Busse, Mrs. Will Inman all of Seattle, Mrs. O Pulis of Tacoma and Mrs. Roy McCurdy of Zanesville, Ohio.
The casket bearers at the funeral for the deceased were Gene Neas, Orville Rector, Clyde Medlin, Jack Riley, Jobe Eberhard and Ora Faubion. The flower bearers were Mrs. Fred Foster, Mrs. Leo Foster and Mrs. Gene Neas. The funeral service and interment was made under the direction of the Long Funeral home of Jerico.
